Lifestyle Session: The Nugents

I have been photographing the Nugents for a few years now. It is so great to be able to share with them the growth of their family and I look forward to our session each year. We never plan a lot for the day, but let whatever is going to happen, just happen. It is all the real moments in the day that I love to capture for them.

Looking for a Photography Assistant

This is Jen. Jen was my assistant/second shooter. Then Jen moved to Vancouver. Sniff, sniff. And tadaaaa...I need a new assistant.

What you would do as my assistant:

Second shoot during weddings.

Carry and set up equipment, including studio lighting.

Paint the cyc wall/seamless.

Work with lovely, fun, amazing and creative clients.

Help keep my website and blog up to date.

Be a stand-in. See image.

Remind me of things I think I will forget.

Be taken out for lunch and coffee.

Keep equipment organized.

You:

Own a DSLR and know how to use it manually.

Familiar with Canon equipment.

Have worked with studio lighting before. (Or willing to learn)

Are nice and want to learn. Seriously.

Can stand on your feet, squat and raise your arms about a 1000 times for 10 hours in +30 weather.

Have reliable transportation.

Are ok with working 4 hours one month, and 30 the next month.

Can be available and reliable on Saturday's during the summer.

Works well in chaotic and fun situations.

Regina Wedding: Maren + Tanner

My favourite part of Maren and Tanner's wedding were the smiles. So many smiles. They were so happy and excited to be getting married, to be with friends and family and to celebrate. So much love.

Wishing you all a lovely holiday and New Years, filled with snowball fights and mistletoe!

There will be plenty of goodness coming in 2013 - a new business identity, website, and a whole lot of sessions yet to share (including 7 weddings!).

But for now, the camera and computer is turned off for a little TLC. See you soon, in 2013!

Year One

A year ago yesterday, we were celebrating at the studio my decision to bite the bullet, quit my safety net job, and just go for it. Full time photographer. Although I had been shooting professionally part time for years, it was a scary decision to go all in. After all, I have two bunnies to feed and a online shopping issue that will never be resolved.

But it has worked out. And it has been a good year. 

A few things I learned:

Never pack your camera bag in a hurry.

Don't work in your pj's for more than 2 days straight.

Carpal tunnel sucks. A lot.

Always keep learning.

Work with great people. It is your choice.

And most importantly, be nice.

Thank you to all the clients and friends, those that inspire me and make me want to do better, and to all those that didn't hang up on me when I started the conversation with "I have a question for you", "AARRGH!" or "No, sorry I can't have a social life, I work 24/7, but I promise I am working on it".

Goodbye Fall.

Pam + Matt, a wedding with a quilt.

I have been to a lot of weddings. And at every wedding, I pick up a thing or two of what I would want my wedding to include (said the perpetual bachelorette, ha!). With Pam and Matt's it was the quilt. Included in their RSVP, they asked guests to send them a small piece of cloth. And with those tiny pieces they made a quilt. Filled with gifts from all their friends and family. Beautiful.
